That word - you keep using that word

I do not think it means what you think it means.

In this case the word is "menswear." I, foolishly, assume it means, well, men's wear. You know, clothing for guys.

Apparently, I am wrong, as witness this: http://www.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=5941

Go on, click the link. I'll wait...

Right, this would be men's wear for the man who wants "feminine fits and details". Clearly.

What, you don't like the printed pink plaid poplin pajama pants?

Maybe they mean that "men swear" by it!

As you're no doubt aware, Mr. Irony, menswear in this instance refers to a style of clothing that is more masculine and tailored than more of the frilly frou frou things they expect women to wear. "Menswear-inspired" might be a better choice. It's a look this season, as evidenced by all the tweed and houndstooth and tailoring. But you're right. It is silly to call pink pyjamas menswear.

Oh, they're just showing how it'll look on your wife or girlfriend, since half the time that's where they'll end up anyway.

Ok, that's rich! We both had a nice chuckle about that this morning.

How odd.
