Music on the lighter side
Meant to do this yesterday then got busy at the end of the day. Oh well. Herewith an attempt to lighten up the dark with fun and cute and more pop than my usual fare.

It doesn't get much cuter than Eliza Doolittle (a shame she's so young, really) and her latest video for "Skinny Genes" is a straight-up pop party tune. This video might take the prize for "most sexual innuendos in a PG video this year". Or maybe I just don't watch a lot of pop videos. Anyway, it's a fun and bouncy tune. I feel like I've blogged her before but I can't find it now. This song has spare enough instrumentals that you can hear her voice well, including the faint British accent.
If you like what you hear, you can check out the two YouTube vids, which are live acoustic recordings of her doing covers, one of Cee-Lo’s "Fuck You" and the other of Coldplay’s "Yellow". She's young and it will be interesting to see if she can take it to the next level or if she just settles for easy pop stuff.

Did I mention DJ Lobsterdust (http://djlobsterdust.com/) is back? Yeah, this isn't up to the level of poppy that Doolittle hits, but it's still a mix, lifting the emo anthem "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" up with B.o.B - "Airplanes" (http:www.bobatl.com) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn6-c223DUU). Interestingly the Airplanes tune isn't that upbeat either, but Lobsterdust makes the combination work. Two downs = one up? Who knows.

Another one I thought I had blogged before but can't find. Dj Jasper Weeda (http://www.superduper.nl/DJ_Jasper_Weeda.html) a kid from the Netherlands I'd not heard of before gives us a nice mash of White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" vs. Tone-Loc's "Wild Thing".

Speaking of DJs I hadn't heard before from the Netherlands, check out oki mashups! This guy has a ton of stuff I need to listen to. Unfortunately the site is nearly impossible to search so I pulled out one (terrible video) from YouTube so you could hear his "Only Supermassive Girl" - a mash of Rihanna and Muse that is definitely the rocking-est thing in today's list.

I like to check out mega-mashes when I find them. Most are just so-so stringing things together but some are downright fun. This one, called "Invasion over Berlin" by T.N.T. for a Bootie Berlin party promo, mashes up AC/DC, Spencer & Hill, Three 6 Mafia, Run DMC, Shop Boys, and B.E.P. Whew, that's a lot, but it works very well. It's an unashamed party tune and that's OK some time.
