Warning to Etsy buyers (and sellers)

They've pulled a Facebook with their new (and apparently unannounced) privacy policy changes: http://arstechnica.com/web/news/2011/03/etsy-users-irked-after-buyers-purchases-exposed-to-the-world.ars

tl;dr version: if you've ever bought something on Etsy your real name and purchase history are now publicly searchable. If you've ever "favorited" (dear god what an abomination of a verb) something on Etsy that choice is also now connected to your real name and searchable.

People buy and sell all kinds of things on Etsy, it seems. Who knew you could buy hand-made sex toys, for example?

Wow, thanks for the heads-up! For anyone who is concerned, you can hide your buying/favourite history by editing your profile, then going to Settings\Privacy.

Can't believe they silently opted everyone in for this!
