Ah, Colbert

at the RSA Security conference:
"We can trust the NSA because without a doubt it is history's most powerful, pervasive, sophisticated surveillance agency ever to be totally pwned by a 29-year-old with a thumb drive"
"We all deserve credit for this new surveillance state that we live in because we the people voted for the Patriot Act. Democrats and Republicans alike. We voted for the people who voted for it, and then voted for the people who reauthorized it, then voted for the people who re-re-authorized it."

I went on a rant in 2008 when Obama, as a senator, voted for the continuance of the Patriot act. I had people cut me off their friends lists and generally complain that I didn't understand how politics worked. I may have cheered a bit when Snowden happened and those same people were appalled at what the government had been doing.

And "we" (for some value of we) voted out Russ Feingold in favor of the tea party - who theoretically love the constitution and don't want government intruding on people.
