How does one join Corp? Just show up at the Armory on the 11th? Or does one have to do something ahead of time?

Can you explain surrealestate's comment? Her comment sounds like there are two meetings on the 11th but the calendar on the Arisia website shows one meeting (from 14:00 to 18:00).

I'll take these in the easiest-to-hardest order.

The Google calendar is out of date. The Facebook event is up to date; I've asked Corp IT to update the site and Arisia calendar to match.

Joining Corp involves paying (prorated) dues or asking for a dues waiver, attending a meeting as a non-voting member, and then being able to vote - or proxy a vote to someone else - at subsequent meetings. You can pay by check, cash, card, or PayPal to the Treasurer. I imagine he'll be VERY busy that day.

All dues expire/are due on the same calendar day; thus they're pro-rated for the amount of the year left.

In order to allow for more people to be able to vote in the upcoming elections, we are doing something that is probably adhering to the letter of the Bylaws, but probably not with the spirit. It has some risks, but is probably the lesser evil in this situation.

On 11/11 at the Armory there will be TWO Arisia Corp meetings. The first one will be short, and will serve to allow people to pay dues, and attend a meeting at which things like the election process and Robert's Rules will be explained. No New Business will be heard at this meeting and the current officers will serve.

Technically new members can't vote at that meeting but since there are no elections and no new business, that doesn't matter.

The main meeting will begin later that same day in the same location; since it will technically be the second meeting since people paid dues, new members who wish to vote will be able to be present and vote, or to designate proxies to vote for them.

This second meeting will have new business (I'll be introducing at least three items myself) and elections. I'll be a candidate in at least one of those elections.

I will not be joining Corporate in order to support you, however, because Arisia has become quite toxic for me. Ben's 30 years of work for Arisia has been reduced to "Ben the rape apologist." (Which while *technically* true, is not anywhere near the full reality.) There are people who want to ban him from Arisia forever.

How much are dues, and how close to the end of the dues year are we? I am not poor. But. If the strike is not resolved, I cannot go. I have some financial goals in mind; keeping these in mind makes me reluctant to throw money in the direction of a con that I might not even go to.

How to deal with the hotel strike must, I'm sure, be a big topic of conversation at the meeting. What are your thoughts on how to deal with the hotel strike?

It's surprisingly not-bad. There's obviously a lot of anger outside, but inside people are still a team. Some folk have left, but even a few of those have come back.
