One thing in particular stands out:
Sometimes that's awesome, as we share tastes in music, games, geek fandoms, and activities. Sometimes that's less awesome as I fear I did the thing I never wanted to do - pass on whatever genetic brokenness my mother had.
It takes a very special kind of bravery to feel this way and yet make the decision you and your lovely wife did to in fact have not just one but two children.
This is something my wife and I discussed at some length very early on, and played a big part in galvanizing her on the side of not wanting children - full stop.
I think it takes a certain amount of bravery to make *that* decision as well, because there are all kinds of pressures both macro and micro that come to bear when you say "No we're NOT having kids.".
Our rescue dog is the closest we'll come to having children (No comparison - I know! Although there are in fact similarities :) ) but I am delighted to have so many smart, self aware, brave friends who were willing to take that risk and make the investment in raising our future society.
