Yesterday I'm supposed to go to the dentist. Get stuck in meeting. Realize I'm late, rudely abandon meeting and run out the door. Frantically phone dentist to tell them I'm going to be late.

Silly back-and-forth ensues with dentist as they try to postpone the other person whose appointment I would overlap. Except the phone number he gave them no longer works.

While driving, get call from wifey explaining that she did something to the car that dislodged the bumper which is now rubbing against the wheel so she can't drive her car. Can I please pick up the kids after the dentist? Well, no, because given how late I am by the time I get out of the dentist I'll be too late to pick up the kids.

Call dentist back, cancel appointment. Head to pick up kids. Wifey to call AAA for roadside rescue.

Get kids, take home. Get call from wifey whose AAA rescuer has tied up the bumper so she can drive it to the shop. Shop will give wifey ride home.

This morning, wifey arranges for rental car since shop cannot handle the bumper issue. Must move car to body shop.

While taking child to school, get rear-ended. Fortunately at fairly low speed, no injuries on either side. My car appears undamaged, but the woman who ran into me has some minor dings. Exchange info, drive child to school. Wifey calls insurance company to put statement on record. We're not going to file, but the other woman might.

Drive wifey to mechanic, pick up car. Almost get rammed a SECOND time while pulling out of parking lot. Get lost trying to follow wifey to auto body shop.

Auto body person points out not only is bumper hosed and in need of replacement but there's nontrivial damace to the front of Pygment's car. The hood is pushed up on the right side, and the light assembly is out of true. Did I mention calling the insurance company NOT to file a claim? Well, now we get to file one because this has rapidly grown into the thousands of dollars in repair costs.

Wifey gets partially subsidized rental. I drive to work, BLOODY CAREFULLY YOU BETCHA BUB.

Did I mention the funny part? We were wondering what to do with the little bit of money we had left over after paying first-of-month bills. Problem solved!

I'm glad, at least, that no one was hurt. Sorry to read about all the car issues, however.

h-h-holy mackerel.

I'm really sorry to hear about all this. I was so intent on gazing into my own navel that I had no idea.

Heh. I hear ya. That was us last month with the water heater. And here we were stupidly looking forward to using that money to go to California to visit my grandparents-in-law!

Who was it said "level is the new up"?

I don't know, but clearly I'm hanging out with too many gamers, because my first reaction was that you were talking about "leveling up." :P

Yep that was me.

Suckage, man.

I've been blaming the Major Driving Stupid on all the out-of-towners for tomorrow's graduation in Cambridge, but maybe there is just a Cloud of Driving Skill Interference over the whole state.

Well, bugger. When I drove past you (doing about 75), the woman standing next to her car made me think of you, but why would you be on the side of the road? Sorry I didn't go back to double check if it was indeed you.

Glad you both have that financial cushion, but not fun nonetheless. Last autumn we had a few expensive car repairs that made things tight for a while, but we've pretty much caught up.
