I spent two days in NYC last week for work. Very productive. Original plan was that I'd go back for two days this week but that's looking increasingly unlikely due to several factors. I'll probably land back in the city at several points in the next couple months and if people wanted to do lunches or dinners in lower Manhattan I could arrange that.

After that I spent two days idling at home. Partly taking care of kids, partly burning vacation days (I'm still in use-it-or-lose-it territory). With Monday's holiday that was five days of essentially nothing. I played with the kids, played on the computer. Puttered at house chores. Avoided getting sick. Dealt with my kid getting sick.

For Valentine's day, wifey and I (re)watched Don Juan DeMarco which is probably my favorite-ever chick flick. I don't really like this holiday, but what the heck.

One of the advantages of the doing-nothing-ism was that I got to read all the comments on the great LJ confessional post. Once again my name didn't come up, but I'm OK with that - much more OK than I've been in past years. I learned some things. I don't think I'll participate in the ljconfessional community - I just don't have that much free time on a regular basis.

One of those things I learned is "put titles on your comments". Because, really, hundreds and hundreds of emails all with the subject "Reply to a comment" gets dull pretty fast.

Now I'm back at work again. Work is flat-out crazed; we've got too much work and can't hire people fast enough, partly because we're pretty picky about whom we hire. We've filled the QA lead position, finally, but really need at least one more dev lead (senior Java guy with multi-threading and servlet experience) and probably a couple more. I may even get approval for another hire for my group this year.
