I'm in the position of having an embarrassment of paid time off from work. I need to burn two more days before the end of March or I lose them. My plan is to take off Friday the 27th and Monday the 30th.

Given that I can't go away for a weekend and oughtn't spend a lot of money, but can spend a little and have a car for getting around locally, I'm wondering if there's anyone who'd like to do something with me either of those days.

Lunch maybe? A movie matinee?

I have a hankering to see the portrait exhibit at the MFA (http://www.mfa.org/exhibitions/sub.asp?key=15&subkey=7106) and I'd even be willing to pay for someone else's ticket so I had company for that. Or if there was something else on exhibition that you think is "do not miss" I'm open to ideas. (Note, I don't need an arts listing - I'm more looking for stuff to do with a friend.)

This Saturday DrKaren agreed to kid-sit for us so we could go out and have a civilized dinner and watch a movie. Which we did. Also, it's great to have babysitters who remind our kids just how nice Mom and Dad are...

We went to dinner at Taipei Tokyo, a Chinese-Japanese place that's just opened near Woburn Center. There have always been cheap and hole-in-the-wall Chinese places, and there was a sushi place. This is trying to bring some of the best of both, and aiming at a mid-scale clientele. No liquor license yet, but you can BYO and some people are doing that. The sushi is decent and I got a spicy shrimp dish that was - lo and behold - actually spicy without my having to make a big fuss about it.

And then there was Watchmen. I've been nervous about seeing this movie since it was first announced. It would have been so easy to botch it, to put out another League of Extraordinary Gentlemen flick that would have totally missed what the comic was about. It didn't help that the two critic reviews I heard before going were both negative.

So, in summary, no it didn't suck. But neither was it a great movie. Herein lie spoilers... )
