Here's an odd lot to spice up your week:

http://illuminoids.com/musicset.html
Since I mentioned Jells Mayhem last Monday as half of the Illuminoids I've been listening to his work with Howie Pyro. The music set page they have here has a ton of remixes, of variable quality as you'd expect. First off, they're loud. Second, a lot of it is picking two random tunes and trainwrecking them. Some of it is good, though. What would inspire someone to mash up Devo with Bauhaus and Beck ("Lugosi's Mongoloid Loser") is beyond me. If you revere the classics then you probably don't want to listen to these. On the other hand, I really love what they've done with some of it, such as the T. Rex vs Shiny Toy Guns mix called "Get It On at Le Disko".

This is Lou Barlow (of Dinosaur Junior) taking on the very popular La Roux's "Bulletproof." It's a straight-up cover, but with Barlow's gentle vocals and understated guitar. I'm not a big fan of singer+guitar but this one is quite nice and a good way to rest your ears from the Illuminoids.

Drop the Lime are a couple of fairly standard DJ/producers. I point to this page because it has two mixes of the same track and gives a nice side-by-side of how you can mix up a song, increasing the BPM and tempos of the various bits, or mix the same track down, for a much more mellow effect.

Another really good example of how to take a standard rhythm and do something nice with it. Here, Christabelle (http://www.myspace.com/christabellesinger) puts her vocal stylings over some standard dance-disco beats and comes up with something that moves me much more than the basic tune does. To his credit, Lindstrom knows what he's got in her voice and mixes up to it.
