I am seeing a situation where posts appear and disappear seemingly at random on my friends page.

Example:

I load the page and read posts A, B, and C going backward in time. I refresh the page and get
A, then a which I'm damned sure wasn't there before, B, and C

Or this:

I read a page of posts A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H - 15 total up to M, N, O. Then I click the button for "Previous 15 Entries" and get N, a, b, c, O, P, Q, etc. Again, I'm damned sure those three posts weren't in the previous page, but somehow moving back or forward 15 entries causes them to show up.

All of which is to say - if I don't respond to your post please don't assume I'm ignoring you. It's entirely possible LJ couldn't be arsed to show it to me.

This week is the anniversary of Griswold v Connecticut, the landmark 1965 case that established a right to personal privacy, and a right of married couples at first, then later all adults to contraceptive medicines.

Griswold was also an important precedent for several later privacy-related decisions, not least of them Roe v Wade and Lawrence v Texas.

Personal privacy protection in the US is still far weaker than I'd like it to be, but it's largely due to Griswold that we have any at all.
