I only met him once in person at one of those meet-and-greets they have after technical talks. He was warm and kind to everyone, including wet-behind-the-ears newcomers like me.
To try and quantify how much his inventions and ideas meant just fails utterly. We wouldn't be having this conversation today without him. He foresaw so much that it took 30-40 years after his "mother of all demos" for the wired world to catch up to him.
