Quick background: in World of Warcraft there's a boss called "General Vezax". One way to fight him is to let bits of stuff coalesce into something in the manner of the cartoon character Voltron...

While Blizzard maybe simply be using the word animus loosely to suggest a literal spirit, perhaps we should consider the interpretation that the Saronite Animus may be the animus of General Vezax in the Jungian sense -- which would indicate that Vezax is female. Note that Vezax lacks the "proboscis" (to use Damonpike's delicate phrasing) that the other deformed abominations who serve Yogg-Saron seem to have, which would further suggest that Vezax is in fact female. The idea of Jungian complexes being compared to Voltron amuses me to no end -- "I'll form the feelings of inferiority!"
