Late in the evening, sweetmmeblue and I are enjoying quiet time, catching up on LJ and similar intensely important activities. The children are playing at least somewhat quietly in the kitchen when L, the younger, wanders up and announces:
"Mommy! I have a POOP!"

sweetmmeblue, who really would rather not deal with this, responds:
"Spiffy!"

To which L, being nearly-three, inquires brightly:
"What spiffy? Da poop?"

Heh. I sure wish Allen would tell me he has poops. *sigh*

We've been reinforcing (OK, repeatedly pounding) this idea in his head for several months now. We also have the advantage of the school helping to reinforce it, plus he sees other kids there demonstrating good potty behaviors. Much as I hate the idea that my kids will act like other kids at school sometimes, the socialization factor was enormous in potty training both of them.

We can't get Liam to tell us when he needs to go pee. about 80% of the time he will tell us he has started pooping or has a poop. It's not 100% of the time.

But we can get Liam to go pee in the toilet as long as we remember to ask him once an hour. We have a "peeing chart" and each time he goes pee he gets to put a sticker on his chart. We are not giving rewards for the number of stickers he gets, he just likes to put stickers on the cart :)

Getting Kfir out of diapers was MUCH more of an ordeal.
