I've listened to these guys off and on for a while now but haven't paid much attention 'till now.

Mashuptown did a brief note indicating that the duo have put out their second album. Like the first album, it's free to download. Mashuptown also posted two "sample" tracks - you can find the MP3 links there. I sort of like both the tracks, but it's pretty clear they're cut out of a more set-like composition since they end abruptly and feel kind of out of place. I haven't listened to the full albums yet, but I did visit the MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/sprmshbros) and stream the tracks there. All of those are more complete and better to listen to if you want a sense for what these guys do. It's basically 90s-favorites mashed up with recent hip-hop and rap tracks.

Given the source material it's not terribly surprising that it's got FCC-disapproved language, in case you care about that kind of thing. On the other hand, they did title their first album "Fuck Bitches Get Euros" so that shouldn't be a surprise.

I like it - I can identify most of the 90s tracks they're working with and it's amusing to have these "oh!" moments as I'm listening and realize what they're mixing over. If I was more up on this decade's rap I could probably identify more of it. Also, unlike a lot of the mash-ups I've linked in the past few weeks these guys are pulling in LOTS of samples per track, not just two or three things.

Now for those who want something different, here are a couple tabs I've had up for a while...

This is a no-vocals, long electro-ambient track by... um, I think the band's name is Boris (http://www.myspace.com/borisdronevil). They're Japanese, and slightly weird, but very listenable. They also appear to have done the soundtrack for the most recent Jim Jarmusch film "The Limits of Control" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1135092/) which reminds me I really need to see this film.

I've been holding onto this one, listening now and then, and I'm still not sure what I think of these guys. It's sort of standard club/house with minimal vocals and a fair helping of electronica effects. That doesn't automatically make it good or bad, but I think I have to be in the right mood to listen to stuff with this many BPM.
