I know I said we'd revisit some old favorites, but with one exception they didn't hold up. So a quick skim over what I had planned to blog and instead some random new stuff to pique your interests.

First up, the one bright spot: DJ Steveboy. He's back from Burning Man and has posted the first of a multi-part epic mix he's calling "Playa con dios" (he's a better DJ than comedian, I promise). http://djsteveboy.com/groovelectric.html
This is part 1 of 4 and even though it's more electronic and less new/old funk than I usually like he still manages some good phat horn bits. I noted in the playlist he's got some Deadmau5 in there - keep an eye on that name.

I was excited to see that DJ Earworm (http://djearworm.com/) has finally posted something new - he's been silent for weeks. Unfortunately, this tribute to Sean Kingston left me completely flat. I've never been a fan of the artist to start with so maybe that's part of the problem. Meh.

Mashup Industries (http://www.mashup-industries.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=5&id=17&Itemid=36) has three new mixes up, none of which really moved me. Even the DJ Schmolli effort is just so-so, and I really don't like Marc Jonce's choices of tracks or his mix style. Danny Mei, who I still think has promise, isn't showing it here either. Next!

OK, new stuff time:

We Are Standard's "The First Girl Who Got A Kiss Without A Please" is kind of Brit electro-pop but has interesting vocals and instrument lines I like. When I have some time I need to track down more of their stuff.

More La Roux mixing. This one doesn't completely strip away the pop music that I think is holding back her voice, but it does provide some more complex synths. Also, the blog link is to a cute interview where she jizzes about seeing Kraftwerk and getting front-row seats for Depeche Mode. Also, she hates Twitter, so bonus points there.

It has been a while since I posted a rap-mash and this one caught my ear in part because it's taking fast-talking NY street rap and mixing it with sweet-pop synth vocal stuff. The sound bounces back and forth a bit more than I'd like but it's highly danceable anyway.

Remember I said to remember Deadmau5? Yeah, him. Check this one out. It's got a picture of his stage costume - like, whoa. Also a track he did with vocals remixed over it. I like the vocals, but I'm not too fond of the vid. Still, a nice mix. And if you have two hours to spare (and it doesn't crash your Firefox like it crashed mine) you can listen to a BBC One Essential radio mix set featuring Deadmau5.

Now to post this damned thing before I hit the "play" button again...
