I find a refuge in music
Jun. 6th, 2012 04:03 pmLet's see what's available for mood-alteration today. The goal of this set of links is to have completely different feels so you can find something that fits where you are right now.

Clubfeet (http://www.facebook.com/helloclubfeet) are a relatively new synth-pop quintet from Australia. This, City of Light, is the first single off their second release. It's somewhat Jarre-esque (what? I just made that up, hush you) with high minor electro accents over light male vocals. Very pleasant listening.

If your taste runs to something much dirtier than Clubfeet, how about Blue Stahli's remix of the Beastie's classic "Sabotage." Stahli splits the track, adding more thundering bass and pushing up some of the higher bits with electro-scratch stylings. I love the original and this remix is a nice tribute and fun when you want to crank something loud.

LeeDM101 takes Dragonette's "Let It Go" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSL93KO2gnk) and done it one better. The original is a highly produced pop tune that has a hard time balancing its vocals with overdriven house thump. Lee takes out that horrid background and lays the vocals down over much more sophisticated musical accompaniment from Alex Metric and The Ting Tings. This is a case where the mash-up is clearly superior to the original.

Retro/Grade (http://www.facebook.com/retrogradeishere) are a UK producer duo. This mix of "Mindfighter" is instrumental, very Euro-disco, and gives me the feel of a futuristic B movie soundtrack. That's not bad, mind you, it's just the kind of music that wants to be played as spaceship models fly past pinprick skies.

This Temper Trap (http://www.myspace.com/thetempertrap) remix brings an interesting cross between straight-up four-piece rock-and-roll and soaring electro-house. The original (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Vsbc0oR6fE) is a drum-strong anthemic rock tune that here is remade into a high-BPM dance-feel track by remixer Fort Romeau (http://soundcloud.com/fortromeau).

Liars are sort of artsy experimental electronica. I decided against blogging the official video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggR6RuBh8I0) when it came out because it freaked me out more than a little. The Vince Clarke remix here preserves a lot of that weirdness and electro-experimental feel, while fitting things around some nice techno beats.
