The short answer is that I don't know the person well enough to have a real opinion.
The longer off-the-cuff answer is that I've seen so many artists working in ways that boggled my mind I've come to think it's a wholly individualized process. Maybe it works for him, in which case great. But I don't know that it's really generalizable or that there are grand lessons to be drawn.
