"When I woke up, I found your gun. I should have felt grief, but I felt none. You are never without your gun so it still being here likely means they finally got you and that means I'm free. In the event that this assumption is wrong and they have not gotten to you yet I am leaving you this letter. This time I'm gone. Don't try to find me. I don't want to be wrapped up in your misery any more. If you have come back to get your gun, well, you're out of luck. I've taken it with me in case some of your misery has rubbed off and they try and follow me in the hopes I lead them to you. I never want to see you again but if you show up looking for me remember, when I woke up, I found your gun. I should have felt grief, but I felt none, in fact I felt nothing."

The funny thing for me is that I have never seen an actual Burma-Shave sign, and have no idea why I even know about them, but nevertheless I have for years had "Burma Shave" as my reflex response to anything that has that couplet-rhythm.

Perhaps I wrote advertising jingles in a previous life. (grins)
