Just listen to Afrojack already (music)
Nov. 12th, 2019 03:23 pmIt has been a while since I found an artist I was enthused enough about to do this but seriously, if you're at all into modern EDM and particularly its funky side you should be following this guy. This stuff is pretty squarely in my wheelhouse most of the time. I mean, it's DJ sets so there's going to be things that go off the rails for me, but that's to be expected.
I'll blog a few things here with a little commentary but mostly you should just listen and follow this guy wherever you get your tunes.

Jacked Radio is my main weekly source of his work. I listen to a lot of new artists but really I'm only skimming a tiny tiny fraction of the universe of new music. Shows like this introduce me to so many new options, and Afrojacked has interesting tastes in assembling these sets. Sometimes he also puts his own things in, like (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRqxqJtnX2E) his remix of Darkside. The original (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkAZaKwlXTo) is a lot of fun and I can see why Afrojack wanted to mix it. Listen particularly for the beat he mixes in around 2:00. It's a nice touch.

Another of the weekly Jacked Radio episodes that I marked. There are several good pieces on here, of which the closing anthem "Back To Life" is noteworthy. This is Dubvision's collaboration with AfroJack on a popular sunrise special that has been showing up in DJ sets for the past few months. I'm fond of the extended mix (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmHE9DM98GU).

I could list more of the Jacked Radio mixes but I wanted to highlight this one instead. It's a Tomorrowland mix, a Belgium-based digital radio "experience" that tends to feature popular European DJs and EDM stars. This is Afrojack doing his thing, including several of his own tracks. Unfortunately the setlist isn't up on SoundCloud but you can find it on third-party sites like track-list.com (https://track-list.com/playlist/afrojack-tomorrowland-one-world-radio-friendship-mix-10-10-2019/).
Probably my favorite bit in here (which I can't find available elsewhere) is a silly A|B mash at 43:18- David Guetta & Sia vs. David Guetta & Martin Garrix & Brooks, "Titanium vs. Like I Do"
So I might blog a track or something from a Jacked Radio in the future but in general if you're not subscribed I'm not likely to convince you. Which is OK, I'll have different things in the next music post.
