Today's word is "promession". This is a new method of disposing of bodies in which the remains are frozen in liquid nitrogen and then... well, kind of bashed about until they fall into powder.

No, I'm not making this up. I can't possibly make this stuff up. Here, go read The Promessa Foundation's "Organic Lifecycle" page.

There's even a Wikipedia page. Of course.

A complete plot for a novel-length murder mystery flashed into my head when I read your post. Thank you!

Of course the murder mystery has to be set at Baitcon, as a means of explaining the Liquid Nitrogen needed to make it happen.

"Promession is a way of taking care of human remains with highest dignity in order to make mulching possible."

Nothing...I mean nothing says "dignity" like mulch.

Me, I wanna go as a LifeGem(TM).

I'm not sure how I feel about the whole "LifeGem" thing. Seems a little creepy to me.

But then, so does mulch.

HM.

It's supposed to be far more environmentally friendly than cremation or traditional burial. Do you have any idea how many toxins our corpses leech into the soil for decades after we're buried? Embalming fluid isn't exactly environmentally friendly stuff.

Most Jewish burials don't use embalming fluids.

I've said this to Wuffle before and I'll say it again:

"Slap my rear in a cheap pine box and toss me in the ground. I'll be in no position to appreciate satin and mahogany."

I've been interested in this ever since I read Mary Roach's fascinating book Stiff. Recommended, if you're looking for good reading.

Getting away with murder?

You know, when I started reading this it sounded like some scheme that organized crime had come up with to make it harder to be convicted for murder. I mean, no body...

That's great! You have to wait until they're actually dead, right?
