I'm going to bet these will be easy, in part because my movie preferences are likely well-known, but here goes. Name the movie behind the quote (I was nice and didn't include any of the non-English films that I like on this list).

1. "Don't you sometimes wonder if it's worth all this? I mean what you're fighting for."
"You might as well question why we breathe. If we stop breathing, we'll die. If we stop fighting our enemies, the world will die."
[livejournal.com profile] sweetmmeblue

2. "I'm sure you've discovered my deep and abiding interest in pain. Presently I'm writing the definitive work on the subject" [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain

3. "How do you shoot the devil in the back? What if you miss?" [livejournal.com profile] sweetmmeblue

4. "And I thought they was getting off. Didn't we have an intricate plan on how they was gonna be not here any more?" [livejournal.com profile] caulay

5. "Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave." [livejournal.com profile] hammercock

6. "that's the day I knew there was this entire life behind things, and... this incredibly benevolent force, that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Video's a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember... and I need to remember... Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in." [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain

7. "Stampeding cattle."
"That's not much of a crime."
"Through the Vatican?"
"Kinky. Sign here."
[livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain

8. The future begins tomorrow (this is seen in the movie, but not actually spoken) [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain

9. "Sure, okay, I see Charlie Chan, Fu Manchu and a hundred howlin' monkey temples, and that's just for starters, right? Fine! I'm back! I'm ready, goddammit let me at 'em!" [livejournal.com profile] heinleinfan

10. "If on your journey, you should encounter God, God will be cut." [livejournal.com profile] mrf_arch

11. "All I want to do is graduate from high school, move to Europe, marry Christian Slater, and die. Now that might not sound too great to a sconehead like you, but I think it's swell. And now you show up and tell me I'm a member of the hairy mole club so you can THROW things at me?" [livejournal.com profile] talandra

12. "How odd that it should end this way for us after so many stimulating encounters. I almost regret it. Where shall I find a new adversary so close to my own level?"
"Try the local sewer."
[livejournal.com profile] heinleinfan

13. "Colonel! Can you possibly imagine what is going to happen to you, your frame, outlook, way of life, and everything, when they learn that you have obstructed a telephone call to the President of the United States? Can you imagine? Shoot it off! Shoot! With a gun! That's what the bullets are for, you twit!" [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain

14. "They're coming outta the walls. They're coming outta the goddamn walls. Let's rock!" [livejournal.com profile] qwrrty

15. "It was as though this plan had been with him all his life, pondered through the seasons, now in his fifteenth year crystallized with the pain of puberty." [livejournal.com profile] sweetmmeblue

(I promise that the preponderance of violent imagery in these quotes is not related to Valentine's Day.)

So as not to be greedy and answer them all... I will take number 11.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the original movie. Kristy Swanson to Donald Sutherland.

Oddly enough, I thought #12 sounded like it may have come from Banzai.

Well, the "American Beauty" quote is the crux of the film and the source of its title.

And the confrontations with Colonel "Bat" Guano are some of the most surreal comedy ever filmed. "If you're wrong, you won't just be answering to me. You'll be answering to the Coca-Cola company!"

Actually, I got those straight off as well. The video camera in 'Beauty was so integral to the development of Ricky Fitts' character-- it depends on the balance between what's seen by the human eye v. what's captured by the camera, as evidenced by the mammoth amount of tape he's got in his room.

A lot of these sound familiar but not quite so much that I can be sure.

#2: The Princess Bride.

#5: Not sure but I'm going to guess V For Vendetta. (My first guess was The Matrix but IIRC you're more of a V fan. :-)

#6: American Beauty.

#7: Not sure here either but I'm guessing Blazing Saddles.

#8: Blade Runner?

#14: Aliens?

What amuses me is that you have three films from which this quote seems like it could have come. :-) I see a pattern, Doctor!

#4 is, of course, Serenity

Number 4 is Serenity, spoken by Jane to the rest of the crew after the Tams DID NOT get off the ship.

Is #9 Big Trouble in Little China?
And #12 is definitely Raiders of the Lost Ark.

OOH OOOH! MR. Kotter.

#1 is from your favorite movie. I got it now. Casablanca.

In rereading it I could hear the accents and it just took me a bit to place it.

D'oh! I should have gotten that! But for some stupid reason, my brain was insisting that the quote came from a space opera.

OMG how did I miss the raider's one. I've only seen that movie like 8 times and in two different languages. *sigh*

#1 is Casablanca. I forget who asks him the question, but the answer is from Viktor Laszlo.

i don't know the answer to #10, so this isn't an answer to your meme. but i did want to say that so far of the examples of this meme that i've seen, your list contains more movies that i've either seen, or would see, than any other list. this both surprises me terribly and doesn't surprise me one bit.

i'd make a list, except that i'd be afraid of no one being able to answer them... (or of no one reading my journal often enough to notice that i had a list).

Excellent choice -- it's a tough quote to place until you know the source. I totally feel now like I should have gotten that one.
