The missed quotes

drwexPeople had asked where the un-guessed quotes came from. Using the numbering from the original post:
1. "I find myself on the planet Ogo, part of an intellectual elite, preparing to subjugate the barbarian hordes on Pluto. But even though this is a totally convincing reality for me in every way, nevertheless Ogo is actually a construct of my psyche." - 12 Monkeys. I thought this might be a bit obscure but I couldn't find a quote that was more definitive of the movie.
2. "I'm not a killer. I'm just someone who wanted to make things right. Can't I just let myself forget what you've told me? Can't I just let myself forget what you've made me do?" - Memento. As a movie about memory and killings I thought this might be recognizable.
4. "You don't live with me, you live among the remains of dead people. You sift through the detritus, you read the terrain, you search for signs of passing, for the scent of your prey, and then you hunt them down. That's the only thing you're committed to. The rest is the mess you leave as you pass through." - Heat. Totally obscure. The movie isn't a big one for dialog; this line, to Pacino's character by his soon-to-be-ex wife, captures the essence of that character.
5. "...while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth." - V for Vendetta. I thought this would be guessed more easily, particularly since comments on the first one mentioned the movie as a source.
9. "I think that sex is overrated. I think that people place far too much importance on it, and I think that stuff about women wantin' it just as bad as men is crap. I mean I think that women want it, I just don't think that they want it for the same reason that men think they do." - Sex, Lies, and Videotape. Also one I expected people to get, since I think this movie is popular with my flist.

Date: 2008-02-16 05:12 pm (UTC)I've seen most of the others, but like most Michael Mann movies, I remember Heat for the imagery, rather than the dialog.
I missed the V quote because it isn't Moore's.
But I've never seen Sex, Lies, and Videotape. It didn't sound interesting to me when it came out, and it (frankly) still doesn't. People should figure out who they are before interacting intimately with others.

Date: 2008-02-18 03:28 pm (UTC)S, L & VT is a little bit outdated these days (in our current culture of public confessional) but for its time it was very good. If you like psychological character studies it's still worth seeing. Also, it just seems Spader does his best work in films about sex (SL&VT, Secretary, Crash).
