I happen to use the word "orbit" to L. He asks what it means.

Me: It's when one thing goes around another. Like the moon orbits the earth. And the earth orbits the sun. That's a year - one orbit around the sun.
L: And the moon orbits the sun, too!
Me (puzzling how to explain - he's not _wrong_ in the absolute sense, but he's confused the basic idea): Not exactly. The moon orbits the earth, and they both...
L: No, I'm sure the moon orbits the sun.
Me: You are?
L: Well, K told me and he heard it from an adult so I'm pretty sure it's right.

From this we can logically deduce that Daddy is not an adult. Again, I think he's not _wrong_ in the absolute sense, but...

It is always amusing to have a child so certain on something like that. Truth is, neither way of saying it is exactly right. The earth orbiting the sun and the moon orbiting the earth is actually a simplification. The moon is a large enough fraction of the earth's mass that it is really more of a double planet system, with the center of mass of the double planet orbiting the sun. This page (http://library.thinkquest.org/29033/begin/earthsunmoon.htm) has a good explanation in the moon section. Yes, I know I'm being just a bit pedantic. :P
