I am on the verge of punting Diesel. Comments favoring the punt or not-punt options will be taken into consideration.
I am once again skipping huge chunks of LJ. I enjoy when my friends point me at things that are worthwhile to read.
Order your Serenity shirts awreddy. I still need to find someone who has vending space at Arisia and have no leads at present.
I will have something more significant to say Real Soon Now, I promise.

Date: 2005-11-15 04:15 pm (UTC)I pointed out a blog-sociology article here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/shadesong/2687177.html), but otherwise my posts have been mainly about my writing and my body.
I still need to find someone who has vending space at Arisia and have no leads at present.
I shall ask on your behalf!

Date: 2005-11-15 04:36 pm (UTC)"too interested in the deluge of linky love."
Ha!
My personal perspective on it is that I've been attacked rather too often for not being "balanced" - I kid you not, and I'm 90% sure that the phrase "fair and balanced" was also used - in my posts. I remind these people that this is not CNN, this is my diary. But. I supposedly have a "responsibility to be balanced because [I am] widely read".
And if I don't put up with outright abuse in comment threads, I'm "surrounding [myself] with sycophants".
Hmph, I say.

Date: 2005-11-15 04:50 pm (UTC)It's where I do my intellectual blogging.
The question of whether LJ is a blog (mostly it's not) or a diary (it kinda almost is) or something else has been a fascination of mine for a while. Having thrown myself into the train-wreck it's more than an intellectual concern these days.

Date: 2005-11-15 04:58 pm (UTC)For me, it really is more of a diary. I started it in response to a Florida friend's complaint that he didn't know what was going on in my daily life since I'd moved to Georgia. So I do have some bloglike components to it, but the intent was always to have something more like a diary/communication tool. I find the idea of being looked on as a reporter who must do political research and present all sides of a story rather than just posting a mini-rant silly. This is the editorial page, man, and I've never claimed otherwise. :)
The responsibility of a blogger/LJer to their "audience" has become of interest to me. I find this disclaimer (http://www.namaii.com/readme/) well-done, though visually annoying.

Date: 2005-11-17 02:33 pm (UTC)Well, I can always pop on over if it's a topic of interest. Adding it as a feed will remind me that it exists; I'm not so good at remembering to check non-LJ blogs! :)

Re: "punting Diesel"
Date: 2005-11-15 05:03 pm (UTC)Anyway, "punting Diesel" is local slang for skipping out on the weekly Poly Boston social gather that takes place at the Diesel Cafe on Tuesday evenings. It started as a "get out of the house" for the unemployed during the dot-bomb and has evolved into a regular social games-and-chat-and-meet-for-dinner thing. It's my weekly socialization, sort of.

Date: 2005-11-15 05:00 pm (UTC)As for LJ... I read some blogs, too, but not regularly (Kevin Drum at Washington Monthly is a favorite, but that's largely because he's the brother of an ex, and I'm good friends with his mom.) LJ is the main way I get more personal info about people I know. (and good links, too)

Date: 2005-11-15 05:06 pm (UTC)Oh, Wex, I think I ordered a 2XL fitted shirt, but I tried on your lovely wife's XL fitted shirt at Chip and Anne's a week or two ago and decided that the XL would be fine. Should I re-email you my order, or is this enough?
