There are lots of trees around our house. I like this. A down side to this is that the trees near our bedroom window seem to be home to quite a number of enthusiastic songbirds who feel compelled to LOUDLY announce themselves.

So this AM when I was awoken again and dragged myself out of bed a bit before 5AM to close the windows what I really wanted to say was (vampire voice) "Children of the night... SHUT UP!" What came out was "I recognize the genetic imperative of procreation and the associated requirement to display one's virility by the strength of song produced. But, dear gods, do you have to do it at five in the morning?"

And thank you to Wifey who let me sleep in when I managed to pass out again.

I end up donning ear plugs at the latter half of the sleep cycle in the (usually hopeless) notion to not totally wake up when M. hits the snooze a bazillion times.
It does mean that the birds don't wake me up, though. The down side is when I end up falling back asleep so heavily that I don't hear my set-to-classical radio alarm for 20 minutes. Oops?

Only this morning. I woke up and went down to the office to get them. Normally i try and ignore them.

And you are quite welcome, you needed the sleep and were oh so cute :)

i always wear ear plugs.
shop around - buy several brands; find the ones that are comfortable enough to let you sleep, drown out the bad noise, but allow you to wake up for the alarm/thing you should wake up for.

I have ear plugs that eliminate the sounds of ticking clocks and quiet my GFs snoring; but I recognize the quiet buzzing of my alarm clock and wake up.

I can totally appreciate this. Except, well, I probably would have told the birds to go sing their songs at a house with the air conditioning running. (Bug someone who won't mind it as much).

Well, this morning it probably would have been, "Rawr!" since I was on on a couple of hours of sleep.

You could try putting a bird feeder as far from your bedroom window as possible and see if it seduces the birds into going over there.

Blue jays are LOUD and the sound carries around here too well. We often hear the marching band practice at the school 2 blocks away loud and clear if our windows are open.

Gah! Fucking birds! Sometimes I hear them as early as 3:30 or 4:00 a.m. starting around this time of year. If I wake up and hear them, I cannot get back to sleep unless I can drown out the sound of them. Before the a/c goes in, it takes earplugs and my white noise machine. Once it's hot enough for the a/c, that's sufficient.
