I signed up for Facebook for charity purposes. No, really, this is what their email to me said:
From now through May 25, you can help support the American Red Cross in a big way—just by logging in, or signing up, on Facebook.
Target is giving away $3 million to 10 charities later this month through its ‘Bullseye Gives’ program. And they’re leaving it up to you to decide how much money they give each charity, through votes on Target’s Facebook page.
The more votes we get, the more funding we receive to help people who need immediate relief and lifesaving assistance—across the country and around the world.
Vote for the Red Cross now:

I tend to think the A.R.C. are worth supporting. So, meh. I'm there under my real name.

Date: 2009-05-17 12:03 pm (UTC)Back when I was in FL, I was trained for hurricane center work with the ARC, and finally was made a hurricane evacuation center manager. I think I was 22 at the time! Alas, I did not get to do that job in Andrew because the school I was supposed to be at was in the direct path, ultimately flattened as a result. Instead I went to a friend's mother's critical care center to get them set up.
I still value what I learned from the ARC regarding disaster preparedness. I value a great deal of what they do.
I've taken their first aid and lifesaving courses
