Closing out music tabs
Sep. 30th, 2009 03:15 pmI also thought Part 2 of DJ Steveboy's "Playa Con Dios" wasn't very inspired. He's put up Part 3 now, which is considerably better, though I winced at the Michael Jackson bits. (http://djsteveboy.com/groovelectric.html)
Speaking of wincing, I've been trying to find some good mash-ups of Collective Soul's "Heavy"(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFX2pk-FtEU) which is probably the best ever second-wave grunge tunes. I've heard rumors of an entire set of remixes called, cleverly enough, "Heavy" but most of what I've heard has been second-rate and really misses the point. If you watch that video, you see four guys up front wailing away on electric guitars. None of that fancy keyboard shite, just heavy rock chords and that's most of the point of the song. Remixers who try to strip that down are seriously missing the point.

OK, enough whining, here's a fun mix. I'm 90% sure that Junkie XL is working off Queen's "Another One Rides the Bus" here, another old fave of mine, despite having Weird Al mess with it pretty severely. This track, "Cosmic Rave" also has riffs from at least seven or eight favorite tunes, some of which I'm having trouble placing. Anyone got ideas? I think at least one is Blondie...

And finally, lest you think I was being too kind to your ears, give this one a try. It's by Divide and Kreate, whom I mentioned recently and ... um, wow. Train wreck!
