Requesting video geek help

AVI files. I can't play 'em. I've tried Winamp and WMP, including a fresh clean install of the latest versions of both. In both cases I get the sound from the file but no visual. These are AVIs downloaded from the net and reported good by other people. Winamp doesn't report any errors - WMP flashes a brief note about some problem with the codec.

Any suggestions?
