Let there be
Jul. 17th, 2009 11:43 pmThe show was great. They played a lot of the new album and several old favorites. And just when I thought they weren't going to do it, they closed with an extended riff on "Perpetual." There aren't many shows where the audience sings the synthesizer part. I think you sort of had to be there to understand just how culminatingly truly awesome it was. I'm half deaf and hurt in places I haven't hurt in a while. But I'm probably going to be grinning for days.
The venue (Paradise Rock Club) was dreadful. It's been a long time since I actually stuck to the floor in a club. The acoustics were horrid and the sight lines were blocked by large pillars. Painting them silver with interesting designs didn't make them not annoying, though it did lead Ronan Harris to ask whether they were the pole dance poles for Lord of the Rings trolls.
Best exchange of the evening... the band have gone off after their first set (about an hour). The crowd are growing impatient.
Ronan: Do you want SOME MORE?!
Crowd: YES!
Ronan: Was that a STUPID QUESTION?!
Crowd: Yes!
Ronan: What's the square root of four?!
Crowd: Two?
Ronan: Oh, good. Last night someone shouted "One!"
(For those not familiar with the band, Ronan's comments are part of the entertainment. Tonight's dialog bounced off Tolstoy, intelligence, how bloggers flip-flop in their reviews, and Donnie Darko.)

Damn.
Good company
