Music, and a time-waster
Jul. 22nd, 2009 10:44 amOK, now that's out of the way, let's get some mixes going...

First, we've got "Rise" with a Japanese composer and a Russian singer. Yoko Kanno (or Kano- the Web seems to use both but Wikipedia uses two 'n's) is a name mostly associated with anime and Japanese game soundtracks. The singer, Origa, also has a sparse Wikipedia page. You can find some links to her solo stuff, which is much more traditional Russian, here: http://www.last.fm/music/ORIGA
Rise is what I think of as fairly standard anime action-sequence sound, but Origa's voice is unusual. I like the mix.

Next up is LA remix band Short Circuit. All of their remix covers are pretty good and that page will let you play the full selection. They seem to have a prediliction for redoing certain 80s pop electronica favorites; definitely listen to their "Shout" remix and "Music Sounds Better With You". The original of that is by one-hit wonder Stardust (I had to go look it up) - the recently popular Daft Punk version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8UBapLGS1M) is also a cover/remix.
And now for the brain-hurty part...

Scroll past the Bootie Berlin bit. The thing you "want" (and I use that term VERY loosely here) is the video clip below it. If you don't know what being "Rickrolled" is you're going to miss half the joke so go look that up first. Then press play on the vid. And don't blame me - you did it to yourself.

To make up for that, I give you a track from DJ Lobsterdust. I'm not sure if I blogged this before, but even if I did you should go back and re-listen to Queen vs Satan. I have to believe Freddy's laughing his ass off, wherever he is. Amen.
