In case anyone else has need of this info:

http://blogs.webmd.com/healthy-children/2006/02/got-lice.html
- Recommends using a Cetaphil-containing lotion in place of the usual deadly chemical-bomb shampoo approach. The stuff smells bad, particularly after it's been baked with a hair dryer, but not as bad as the no-doubt-toxic chemical stuff you get at the pharmacy.

I recommend washing any sheets/pillowcases you sleep on while this stuff is in your hair, not just running them through the dryer. See above about horrid smells.

Yes, I know there are all-natural ways to deal with this. No, I've never tried them and ghu willing I won't ever have to. No, I'm not advocating anyone take any particular approach. You do what works for you. Last time we used the hardcore chemicals and no hair-cutting. It was a lot of work and stress. This time we're hoping for less stress. Next time we might just take off and nuke the place from orbit - it's the only way to be sure.

Just thinking about this makes my scalp itch.

*shudder*

I've been thru lice a few times with Will.
Unfortunately for him, he is so fair that
he's acquired a few freckles in on his scalp
under his red hair.
I have trained myself not to start combing
his scalp with my fingers while we are in
public places.

And now my head itches too.

Been there. We did the hardcore chemical thing, we washed or treated every piece of fabric in the house, I combed nits until I couldn't hold my arms up any longer, and luckily they haven't come back.

I think the psychological part was the worst... I have no reason to believe that I've personally had lice (Kevin and I did treat ourselves, just in case), but just thinking about them is enough to make me itch.

*scratch* *scratch*

More ammo for my theory that you should just keep their heads shaved and dress them in burlap sacks for the first 12 years at least. :)

You think I don't have a stash of burlap sacks already?

I just checked F's head last night (after reading about some of your adventures), and, like you, just the thought makes my scalp itch.

BTW - F has already drawn a picture of our family on the easel.

YAY

I'm glad he is making use of it. We hadn't really used it in months. It deserves more regular use.

Picking nits is really the most helpful thing to do. It took us a while (less than two weeks) and it worked when chemicals didn't.
