Music, with a big helping of nostalgia

Wolfmother (http://wolfmother.com/) is a hard act to characterize. It's something of a throwback to late-60s guitar rock but with more modern sensibilities and instruments. The remixes on this page are bouncy and energetic but without piling on too many BPM.

By contrast Lauren Flax is pretty straight-up dance music. High BPM, some female vocals. Has promise but I don't have time to check out more of her stuff right now.

Likewise, this is a fairly ordinary dance track. It starts off strong then sort of fades to "meh" with repetitions near the end.
And now for something completely different. For a while now I've been thinking that a lot of peoples' reactions to mash-ups isn't so much a reaction to the mash-up itself as it is some set of reactions related to the mash-up and the component tracks. For which I give you this:

A mash-up of the new electro-rock tune "Uprising" by Muse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elElYLYG-yU) with the classic "Cover Me" from Blondie. That tune sparks a lot of memories for me. Debbie Harry was a very early crush for me. She was smokin hot (*), was an approachable punk, and was doing rap way the hell before it was fashionable for white folks. So, yeah, this mix is sultry, sexy, and very danceable in a way that the out-and-out dance mixes don't move me.
(*) In doing the research for this track I found that she was born in 1945, which made her about 40 when I was lusting after her. Bit of a surprise there.
