I promised to review Booty's best and that'll come in a bit, but first a couple of pieces by mixers I covered last week.

Mashup Germany's "Shut up and get funky" is a delightful mix of (mostly) 80s favorites with a simple funk overlay that makes it fun and holds the samples together.

Ini Kamoze is a name I'd heard before. The first track, "Here Comes the Hotstepper", is one I'd heard sampled somewhere. Turns out Kamoze has been around for a long time in and out of reggae music, touring with people like Sly & Robbie as well as Yellowman. Given how long he's been around it's kind of disappointing his page only showcases these two tracks, because both are very good.

OK, on to Bootie's "Best Of..." (http://www.bootieusa.com/blog/2009/10/bootie-top-10-october-2009.html) A few of these are things I've mentioned before, so skipping those left me with seven, of which the worthy entrants are:

I'm not a huge GNR fan, but I do headbang a bit now and then and "Welcome to the Jungle" is one of their signature tracks. Here Jells Mayhem, an LA producer and half of The Illuminoids (http://illuminoids.com/), puts the 80s hair metal over some dance electro tracks, to good effect.

Bootie calls this a "guilty pleasure" and I suppose it's sort of embarrassing to be dancing to this mix, which is essentially a 3.5 minute attempt to prove how little variety there is in this year's top pop hits. They all sound more or less the same, which is kind of funny and sort of sad, if you stop to think about it.

This is both the most brilliant and most disturbing of the mash-ups in the list. It's called "The Ice Cream Mash" and it's a weird amalgam of 20 Fingers' "Lick It" (a song about oral sex, in case you were wondering) against an odd old Sesame Street skit. With Vanilla Ice serving as Greek chorus. If your brain explodes listening to this one you are not allowed to blame me.

And now off to listen to the new DJ Steveboy mix...

I think you're reading a bit too much into that song. I didn't see it.

No, but seriously, full of awesome
