I think they're serious. If so, it's supremely cool. But even if not it is, as Gaiman said, delightful to the inner 12-year-old. At least, to mine.

they are serious: I've seen them profiled on TV (thus it HAS to be real) but more to the point: I saw some of the houses they have done.
Including one on "this old house"
which was VERY cool - the house HAD a "secret room" and the couple hired this company to update the tech :)

In my home town - there is a private school (noble & greenoughs) that has a castle as part of the grounds - the cafateria and teachers housing are in the castle - and there are MANY secret passages in it (I've stepped through secret doors before there)

if I had the money to burn... ;)
