What do you think of youth who consider themselves gay during their youth but later move on to heterosexuality? Do you think you are helping or hurting them by labeling them gay?
Answer:
Neither the gay rights movement nor the sexual liberation movement is concerned with labeling more people gay, straight or anything else. The point is that everyone ought to be free to live an honest sexual and romantic life, whatever that may be, and that they ought to be free from discrimination when they do so. If someone has a more fluid sexuality, who cares? The damage comes from trying to force young people into a sexuality or gender expression that is in conflict with what they actually feel.
(Given who my readership is, I doubt this is a matter of debate. But I want to have this here to refer back to from time to time.)
