It's been a while since I had a good set of things you should turn up loud. Herewith, an antidote.

DJ Steveboy's latest is a short set (47 minutes) but it is straight out of the roots that first turned me on to his work - the 'new old funk'. "Califunkia" is definitely modern electronic dance, but it's also a linear descendant of James Brown, P Funk, and things that used to make white people nervous when I was growing up.

Clivester turns in the first of three good tracks from the Mashup Industries regulars. This one is more disco/pop than the other two. The base tracks have strong vocals, but they're toned down to make the meld work. The result is a driving road tune that keeps bopping along.

Stromkern is a goth-industrial act that blends in electronic and hip-hop styles with the more traditional dark vocals. This tune, "Stand Up", is high BPM and less moody than some of their other tracks. h/t to DJ Purple again for the pointer to them.

Schmolli is always at his best building on top of German rock/metal and here's he's working with legendary Rammstein's "Du hast" against a remix by German dubstep mixer Vaski (http://www.vaskimusic.com/ - plays on load, sorry) of Darude's "Sandstorm". It's an interesting experiment, and a bit on the harsh side. I think it works, but just barely.

Dan Mei, whom I've always been somewhat iffy about, reveals that he loves The Sisters Of Mercy's "This Corrosion" which I think is possibly the best goth track ever. He's stripped down the track, but kept the key elements, such as the choral bits and the fiery intense Eldritch vocals. Then somehow he's fit in the intense, but wholly, different energy of Linkin Park's "The Catalyst".
