We managed to get out to one event this weekend, a lovely party for someone whom we see not nearly enough of these days. It was a good gathering despite the awful weather. Unfortunately it ended on a couple of bad notes:
- L misbehaved so badly that Pygment declared he needed to be taken home. Since K and I had no other transport and since I wasn't going to stick her with a child like that solo I went along.
- We found out later that evening that one of the kids' playmates had developed a 103F fever. Kids being kids it's quite certain both of ours were exposed to whatever it was. Now we're twitching over every cough and sniffle, waiting for disaster to strike.

Due to Item 1 above and the fact that Pygment was still feeling off and definitely frazzled I canceled my plans to go out by myself Saturday night. I'm sure I missed another great party but this business of going out solo doesn't work when the hearth and home are not settled. Plus last weekend's rollercoaster was fresh in my mind. And we have no babysitting for this weekend coming up, so going out solo three weekends in a row was... well, not so much.

I spent most of Saturday doing a mask-building project with K. He picked a knight's mask that is cool but turned into much more work than expected. I had him do much of the gluing and cutting, but there were bits that really wanted four adult hands. Still I think it'll be fun and he seems to like the result.

Sunday was nice enough that we got outside for a bit and did some yardwork. There were some branches that had grown to overhang the hot tub and threatened to drop debris into the water, so those had to come down. I deliberately ignored the grass-cutting, leaf-raking, and chainsawing chores. Laziness with malice aforethought.
