This is LJ as a write-only medium
Nov. 12th, 2007 02:33 pmI am too busy to be frantic. This is good, in that much of the business concerns job interviews. It also means I'm not reading much LJ. Please drop me pointers to things. Here we go, in capsule form:
I did two half-day interviews and one most-of-a-day interview last week, not counting endless hours on the phone. My cell bill this month will be... interesting.
At least one of the interviews went very well. One went so-so, but may be salvageable. One went off the rails due to a recruiter failing to keep his word about conveying certain info to the company prior to my showing up there. That was embarrassing, but I think it's also a salvageable situation. I heard from someone there this AM and may go back this week to try and make right.
Today is my only actual day at work this week. I'm set for a full-day interview tomorrow. Wednesday I am supposed to clean out my cube, but I've got a place that wants me to interview there all afternoon so that bit may get compressed to half a day. And there's another place that told me not to schedule anything else Thursday while they line up the right bodies. And last week's frell-up may want part of Friday.
If by next weekend I'm a vibrating knot of STRESS or collapsed into a pile of my own leaked brain cells, at least you'll know why.
Saturday I was feeling so worn out I couldn't manage to make many decisions. We had a babysitting token and wanted to go out. I had a plan that involved three events. I really should learn not to make such plans.
Plan one, for Saturday afternoon, collapsed when I desperately needed an afternoon nap and the sitter was showing up at 6, not 7:15 as I had thought. Nap 1, party attendance 0.
Got dressed up and packed for party 2 and 3. Got slightly lost on the way to 2, but arrived in good form and had a great time. Discovered that I was starting to droop by around 9:30. Sitting still was about my speed - I couldn't even manage to get up the oomph to join the lovely folk dancing, much as I wanted to. Going to the second event was just Not Happening. Kind of a shame, but there you have it. We do what we can. Plans 3, achievement 1.
Sunday was set to be another do-nothing day except the weather failed to cooperate by being gorgeous and then we had a visit from a friend with her very cute child and that got us all energized. So I decided to make hay... err, rake leaves while the sun shone. Enter Thag.
Thag rake leaves. Thag-wife go get leaf bags. Thag-wife return with bags and kid-sized rakes for Thag-children.
Thag-children decide raking leaves boring. Best game for rakes? Badminton.
Thag disabuse Thag-children of this notion pronto. Thag explain concept of, and household penalties for, high-sticking. Thag-children comply, do passable job of moving leaves in correct positions.
Thag-children disappointed not to get paid for work. Thag remind Thag-children they still paying off cost of various household destruction.
Thag household 1, leaves 0. Leaves promise rematch very soon.
Now to start packing my cube so it can be schlepped today as opposed to Wednesday.
