My weekend with chainsaws
Nov. 26th, 2007 04:22 pmI have lots of things I could write about, but this confluence of power tool things amused me.
On Thursday we went for turkey at hawkegirl's place. She asked if I would carve the bird, which I'm happy to do. Afterward she noted that for all her independence she still somehow feels like turkey-carving is "men's work." I laughed and noted that I was taught to carve a turkey by tamidon. Hawkegirl said "Yes, I guess I could have put down my chainsaw and come in to carve that thing, but somehow this felt better."
Then on Sunday, wifey finally motivated my excessively lazy ass outside to do battle with the leaves again. We'd been slugs all weekend and done basically nothing(*). Somehow my back didn't like the way I was sweeping off the porch and decided to seize up. Powering through that worked for a while, until about halfway through the front yard raking at which point it seized up so much I couldn't raise my arms over my head. Drugs and much hot water to the rescue, but not until wifey pulled out HER new chainsaw and cut up some of the random wood we've had sitting around for a while.
L found the chainsaw to be the coolest thing he's EVER seen, cheering on mommy after each cut. When she'd stop to set up for the next cut he'd ask when the chainsawing would start again. We were highly amused.
I can think of MUCH worse ideas to pass on to my kids than "women and power tools go well together."
(*) Not completely nothing. I did make it out to ariesd/taura_g's feast on Saturday, but could only bring L with me. Pygment stayed home with the sick boy.
