My 'aunt' Maxine passed this morning. She's been in hospice for a couple weeks due to a rapidly spreading metastastic cancer. She was my grandmother's sister-in-law. We weren't particularly close - she was one of those nice aunts one sees at family gatherings every few years - but I wanted to mark her passing.

According to my father, when her husband was asked if there was anything we could do for him, Uncle Joe replied "Go vote for Obama!" Apparently Maxine was very active working for Obama before she went into hospice. I am reminded that Maxine's mother-in-law was one of the suffragettes and a founding member of the League of Women Voters. Maxine was more the quiet organizing type than the stand-up-and-protest type, but she fit right in with her family of marriage.
