drwex | Where did DrWex go?

Sort of fell into a hole, sorry. Mostly back now.

After the moving stress, I had planned this past weekend to be a relaxing few days off. I decided to keep my Friday vacation day so that I could get the house put back together after the furniture move-in, and maybe even see a movie. Best-laid plans.

Wednesday night as I'm heading home for a night out with Pygment and friends I get A Call(tm). Doom! L has another serious case of head lice. Cancel babysitting, cancel night out, engage sanitization procedures.

Through miracles too convoluted to describe, Pygment manages to convince L that it'd be a good idea to get his hair shorn. That turns into quite the project, not least because he's scared of the big clippers. Eventually we decide the only way to get rid of all the nits is to go with a near-scalp buzz cut. Somewhere along the way, L decides he wants to be Aang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aang) - note the bald head?

After watching the process and the effusive praise heaped on L by his grateful parents, K decides that he, too, wants to be Aang (both kids are WAY into Avatar - don't ask me) and gets himself a near-buzz. They're not exactly bald, but that's more or less due to our own fear of mangling the kids' scalps and turning them off this process forever.

So, having lost Wed night plans, I now head back to work to grab what I need to work from home on Thursday. Pygment has clients she can't move on short notice and it's easy for me to stay home with L. Who is, to his credit, about as tolerant of being home by himself as a 6-year-old can be expected to be. Which is to say, not much. I get some work done, and then more work after 5 when Pygment gets home but it's clearly not enough.

So Friday I end up working as well. We convince the camp that two kids with shaved heads can't possibly have lice (and why they're not checking other kids, given that L got it from SOMEWHERE, is beyond me) and send them off. I spend half the day working on work, more than half the day working on house projects, and movie is not so much. At least the living room is cleared and both the computer room and dining room are in better shape. We also did approximately umpty-zillion loads of laundry, between catching up from the previous weekend away and all the extra laundry generated by the lice containment.

Saturday was sort of a recuperation day. Both Pygment and I haven't been sleeping nearly enough due to staying up too late and being woken up too much. Somewhere in there we took several naps - usually sequentially so one or the other of us can keep the kids quiet enough for naps actually to involve sleeping.

Sunday was nice, with house guests and weather just barely cool enough that we could keep the windows open and fans going to circulate the air. I like my house a lot on days like Sunday, with light coming in from three sides, views of trees out almost every window, and people over enjoying themselves.

Guess that's what happens when people get used to my posting nearly daily. I'll have some new music up shortly for folk to enjoy.
