For the THIRD time this winter I had all or part of a weekend's plans trashed by becoming ill. What kind of idiot am I that I can't manage to schedule my illnesses for during the week? Apologies to those whose events I missed and if I gave this virus to anyone at Friday night's dinner I am truly sorry. If I got it from someone at that dinner... bleh.

(This post is written mostly for my own later recollection. Feel free to stop reading here.)

The story starts with one of those conversations you never want to have with your body...

Body: Wake up!
Me: Frell no! It's Four AM! I'm going back to sleep
Body: You do that and you'll be sleeping in a puddle of your own feces. And when I say "puddle" I mean "lake."
Me: AWAKE! Moving! Really, right now!

So yes, I had/have some kind of intestinal thing. Probably a noro-variant, given what's been going around. As those who know me can attest, I do not vomit except under momentous duress. But my intestines were in a very bad way and the rest of me followed. I spent most of Saturday running to the toilet, spiking fevers, shaking uncontrollably, and hurting in ways and places I won't even bother to list. Leave it that it was BAD.

Trying to sleep was somewhere between impossible and amusing. I mean, waking up because my NOSE was too cold? That's ridiculous - the rest of me was buried in electric blanket and comforter. One of the ways I know I'm really ill is that I lose the ability to regulate my body temperature. I used up the entire house tank of hot water on myself in a long shower attempting to get my core temp back up.

Pygment was awesome, making me dilute Gatorade and generally giving me permission to be sick. Not to mention putting up with my near-constant winging and groaning. I had a couple Aleve in me and still had pain levels like someone kicked me repeatedly in the nuts.

Despite the dramatic saga I turned the corner by late afternoon. I could feel after-effects but was definitely better.

One of the cutest moments occurred around kid bedtime (early evening). I'd gone to lie down on the couch again because man was sitting upright TIRING. K was in the living room reading and he offered to read to me. The story was a Greek myth so he kept spelling out words for me to help him pronounce. At some point I fell asleep and he went upstairs to tell mom. I suppose it's really a parent thing, but there's not a whole lot more smile-making than being read to sleep by one's child.

I managed a real night's sleep and normal if careful eating on Sunday. Today (Monday) I woke up feeling a bit shaky but went to work. Pygment informed me that L had another throw-up incident during the night. She'd been up with him since 3A and was pretty fried.

I can still feel the virus in me. CDC says infectious possibilities for 3-14 days after symptoms. Treatment seems to be rigorous hand-washing and surface disinfection. I will beat this thing.
