Science-fiction film obscura

John Scalzi published his list of "nine SF films you should see that you probably haven't"
Bold the ones you've seen.
Metropolis - of course! I haven't seen it since the missing 20 minutes was restored, though. It was pretty long to begin with.
Flash Gordon: Space Soldiers - *shameface* Yes, I've seen this "goofy nonsense" but not all of it.
Destination Moon
Alphaville - sort of. I was in a Godard phase for a while long ago trying to see as much as I could of what he'd done. I found this unwatchable and incomprehensible. Gave up.
Solyaris
The Brother from Another Planet - Yes! Goofy, and very much of its time, but not as bad as its reputation would lead you to think.
Ghost in the Shell - of course. In fact, this kind of spoiled me for anime or vice versa. It sets a level that virtually no other hits and I've given up on most anime after being disappointed it wasn't this good.
The Iron Giant - Yes, though I'm not as fond of it as some people seem to be.

"One's an alien presence that drives all who encounter it insane, and the other was made into a movie by Gennady Tarkovsky."
