Seems like several of our friends are also in the process of serious decrufting. We've been thinking about doing a yard sale with our outcruft (at least the reusable items) to benefit charity. Thoughts?

I really like this idea. I'm not sure when would work, but it's even more incentive to get this stuff done! :)

Unless you have some big-ticket items, I think it'd make more of an impact on a charity if your family spent a day volunteering for them, rather than selling your stuff to make money for them. Yard sales are a lot of work for not much revenue, plus you still have to cart away all the leftovers.

Someone mentioned that yard sales are a lot of work for not much revenue, but David and I had an extremely successful "multi-family" yard sale that was totally worth the revenue. Advertising a multi-family sale typically brings out more shoppers, because the larger the yard sale the more people are going to be interested. And since there were more folks to share the work, no one person was stuck 'manning the table' all day long in the heat or whatever, and it wound up actually being a pleasant day hanging out with neighbors, it hardly felt like work.

So, that would be my recommendation: pick a date and time and find 2-3 other households to join you. Everyone can price their own products and maintain their own cash buckets even, if they wanted and then everyone could do with their own profits what they wished if everyone weren't willing/able to make donations out of all of it.

We had a handful of young kids along at ours, and I set up a lemonade stand and the kids were in charge of that...which kept the kids occupied and helped draw in more foot traffic. Seriously, who can resist kids with a lemonade stand?
