Nifty. I'm a little unclear on your description, though - are you saying you grabbed a camera at the last minute during a public fireworks show, and got this shot, or did you set off fireworks at the last-minute as a thunderstorm approached in hopes of getting some lightning in the frame? The latter seems less likely given local fireworks laws, but then for the pyrotechnics crowd "shooting" a fireworks show means setting off fireworks, not taking pictures.
Sorry for the confusion. At the last minute, on July 4th, I went to a fireworks display - hadn't planned to go. Took my camera and tripod as I tend to do. The thunderstorm rolled in as the show was going on - the downpour started less than two minutes after the finale' of the show ended.
