Petition asking for change in blood donation rules

Evan Low, mayor of Campbell CA, has started a change.org petition asking the FDA to replace its arbitrary (and discriminatory) lifetime bans with deferral periods based on behaviors and scientific understanding.

As someone who falls within the ban restrictions I feel pretty strongly that we should be using more evidence-based rules for safety. If you agree, please read the petition and see if you want to sign on.

I'm waiting for someone to notice that anybody who would have gotten Mad cow from British beef would have done so by now. (Banned as a mad cow, though the news broke less than two months into my time there, and I ate less beef my whole year living there than many people do a day.)
