Stop calling people "resources". Yes, I get that it's common business jargon, but it's rude and confusing. People are not like "desks" or "minutes". You can't just swap them around like cogs, and businesses that behave that way are loathsome. So, stop doing that.

In other news, I'll be shoveling sand against the tide tomorrow.

When I was writing the Hellboy RPG, I stated that the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense still used the word "Personnel" for their HR department.

It wasn't "resources" they had a problem with, though...

WOO HOO!

If they call you a "resource," then you should call them "overhead."

Ooh I like that turn of phrase. "Shoveling sand against the tide" will join my lexicon. (so, think of it as: these people are providing new material for satire.)

When having difficulties at work, I have had to explain to friends that the Human Resources Dept. treats Humans like the IT Department treat computers.
It's giving us trouble; is it cheaper to repair, upgrade, discard/replace? Is it under warranty? Do we have a contract that has some complex provisions we have to observe?

aka
He does not respond quickly enough to questions from his boss, his boss says. Is it cheaper to have a talk, write him up, provide additional training, or fire and replace?
Is it less than 90 days? can we just kick him without repercussions?
IS this person a minority/other Hire? (we don't want to fire the Gay Jewish wheelchair bound Veteran of African Descent!)
