I miss you, Gramps

Today, the third Thursday of November, is the Great American Smoke-out.

On this day I remember my grandfather, who died of emphysema I believe was caused by his many years of heavy smoking. Watching what happened to him I came to understand that this is not a disease - a fate - I would wish on my worst enemy.

Every life is its owner's, including the right to decide its end. If you smoke, and you do not want to end your life this way, please find a way to break the habit - to quit.

FWIW, I do feel for you. My father died of many things, and his lifelong smoking was a big part of that.

My paternal grandfather also suffered from emphysema for many years. It was awful.
