There's a slightly longer story, but I don't have the spoons to type it out. The short form is that they promised me a car and then left it to their counterperson to tell me that there were in fact no cars available. Apparently they do this all the time.

By contrast National, Avis, Alamo, and Enterprise all had no problem determining that there were no cars available at the place/time I wanted. Only Hertz felt compelled to lie about it.

I normally rent from National, but see above. Never again, Hertz. Never again.
